Vintage Racing - 1950s Indy Cars startup and race. LOUD!!!

Chris Ashworth records a series of 1950s Indy Cars at Michigan International Speedway. This was a vintage racing event that was associated with the Concours d'elegance of America, where these cars were on display after this event.

This event was incredible! I got to wander in the pits and the garage area. You will hear these cars starting up right from the tailpipes, and you will see them driving on the track from the pits.

the first car, the black and gold one, was the car from smokey yunick's garage . i grew up in daytona, his garage was right by the river, and when he would dyno a engine, you could hear it all over town and up and down the river . it was wonderful, like music from heaven . i was a little kid, but i knew then i was hearing history

To whom it may concern: Thanks for not putting music on here. The engines are the music.           Also, .... would loved to have heard a NOVI.

My ears have died, and gone to heaven. I could listen to this all day.

That Corvette V8. My god what a beautiful close up of that intake! Those little velocity stacks were mirror polished! And such a glorious noise it made on the banked oval.

Damn it I need to get to one of these vintage Roadster events before I leave the planet. This one is at IMS and I was there for the first Indycar race in 1981. In 2007 at the Rolex Reunion at Laguna Seca the featured car were Roadsters which I attended as well. My first 500 was 1957 when I was age 12.

Back when a business card printing company from Milwaukee could race and win the Indy 500.
Now it's a NASA like budget

THAT SOUND...incredible.  If I had liquid income, there would be one of these in my garage.  And a hammock nearby so I could see it when I woke up every morning.

I am amazed at how these guys fit their HUGE balls into that little cockpit. Bravo!

Beautiful sounds, and the cars are so pretty, and stylish.
Massive thanks to the people who have the passion to keep these cars alive and showcase a great era in motorsports.
Vintage racing, of all kinds, shames modern racing.
Love it, Love it, Love it!!!!
Thank you, again.
Cheers.

These cars from that era of racing are my favorites. They make me tingle all over and get excited in a happy way. I wish I could own one of those. Especially #31. WOW.

Wow ! 😁😁😁 They may not be as fast or full of technology as today’s machines, but they look and sound like REAL race cars. Thanks for sharing (brings back memories 👍🏻)

OMG how wonderful.
I notice the tyres on #31 are treaded on one side only as was the way back then. The Lotuses of Jimmy Clark and Graham Hill really looked strange and they changed the world in Indy racing. Thanks for posting.Amazing.

I like the little map pocket in case the driver gets lost doing a lap.

Update: I was facetious at first, but at the same time there was an incident of a Formula 1 driver who mistakenly turned into a parking lot instead of turning onto the pit road.

Love this post....watched a bazillion times....but as I watched it today I recall my youth and seeing cars like these at Trenton Speedway and never thought about the way there was NO thought in how the cockpit material would burn.
