Speaker Pérez Joins Thousands of Workers and Supporters for Fair Contract

(Los Angeles) - Over 5,000 Los Angeles County employees and their supporters, which included California State Assembly Speaker John A Pérez (D-Los Angeles), marched and rallied at Grand Park for a fair contract. More than 50,000 members of SEIU Local 721 have accepted wage freezes and made other sacrifices for the last five years to help Los Angeles County weather the recent financial crisis. Now that the California economy has turned the corner with the help of fiscally responsible legislating, workers are looking to rebuild their ability to provide for their families and contribute to the recovering economy.
"The County says we have to celebrate quality and productivity," said Speaker Pérez. "That is your quality and productivity, and the way it should be celebrated is with a fair contract now."
