I'm surprised that Homer didn't instantly try and get in on it, he's had at least a few episodes involving him going and trying different foods, like when he was a food critic, or when he tried vegan food because he wanted something in common with Lisa. In fact "acting ethnic" feels much more like something Mr Burns would say, like when Homer got him donuts and he called them ethnic food.
