This is the closest that I will ever get to talking to Paul Haggis, so, here goes. The reason that Marciano had to be arm-twisted into accepting the role of Veccio is because the scene that he was asked to do as his audition was the lamest scene in the whole series; where Veccio is trying to talk to Fraser as Fraser is motionless, performing guard duty outside the Canadian Consulate.
On an entirely different tack, if I ever DID get to speak to Haggis in person, all that I would have to say to him is "onomatopoeia!". If that joke is opaque to most people, watch the Due South episode "Vault".
