Even your older videos are treasure troves of inspiration and introspection. I loved the point you made about the perfected demos and how when we try them at home we can get crestfallen. Your keeping it real is my fave. LOVE that texture you got with the kosher salt. Wow.

Lindsay, I just love the way you do this upside down and still make it look so easy.

I’m so glad I found this video because I got excited and bought a big set of Bombay Indian ink.

I hardly see them used and was googling ways to use them.

I was happy to see you can use them with water as much as you do.

I could see letting the picture dry and then using Caran d’Ache crayons over it or colors pencils…etc.

Thanks Lindsey I always enjoy your videos!

I just bought this exact set of inks with my birthday Michael's gift card. Then I thought, "ok, how do I use them?" LOL! I KNEW you'd have a video. Thanks, 7 years later!

Wow!  India inks.  Wonderful.  Also art journalling looks like lots of fun.  Thanks for the tips.

I really liked the way the India inks bled into each other, this was a very cool tutorial.  Interesting.

This paper doesn't do the craters-style buckling, but if you get enough water on it, the paper sometimes begins to rise like the top of a tunnel. Ross Barbera (I love him too!) had a great tip: you simply paint the back half of the paper with water as well and the paper will lay flat so you have an easier time working on it. Harder to do when you've already done art on the back, but sometimes it works out just right.

Also wanted to say I agree with you about using the journal as practice-- that's exactly what some are using it for. Mistakes aren't possibe-- simply gesso or collage over the stuff you can't stand to see, though it's totally cool to be able to look through your journal to see how far you've come.

You don't have to add words, but a lot of people do, sometimes jusy using quotations to convey a feeling or something going on in their lives. Some use it to work through emotions or situations, some keep it light-hearted. The point is to do whatever feels right at the time. Like you said Lindsay, you don't have to share with anyone, which works for many. Others share because they like knowing they aren't alone and sometimes because they simply like sharing their artwork. It's all good!

I love this! Your video was great. I agree. Do your videos so the viewers see success as well as the learning process. About a month ago, I dove into the mixed media world. Well, I'm now addicted. It gives you a sense a freedom and it's so fun! Thanks! Kimberly

You have the best way of getting someone "out of the chair" and start making art. Been away for way too long. Love what you are creating and thanks for your easy unstructured way of teaching. Feel right at home here...:)

You are amazing. You draw upside down better than most people draw right side up. Thanks for all of your time & expertise

Loved this tutorial Lindsay!  You make art journaling look very easy and less intimidating.  I'm going to try these inks.  They look like watercolors but don't bleed like them!  Thanks!  Looking forward to more of these!!!!

Gret, Lindsay: thanks.  I have all the DocMartin's Liquid Watercolors and absolutely LOVE them.  Considered using them to make sprays, but feel they're just too expensive to do that; instead, have been using Brusho pigments, distilled water and a tad of liquid gel medium and they have turned out just great; no clogging or anything.  I thoroughly recommend them - they can be used just like watercolours and/or mixed with virtually anything - and they're vivid!

The nice thing about journaling is that you don't always WANT to do stuff for show. Sometimes, you just want to get things out. I'm speaking from the perspective of someone who keeps a written journal, but I imagine art journals are much the same. It's something to get your thoughts and ideas out. :)
