A vampire light cleric,
That would be confusing. Would they have resistance towards the sun or would the sun be worse?

Hypothetically speaking...
If you're house-sitting for a friend and they tell you that no one else is allowed in their home while they're gone, would a vampire still be able to come in if you invited them anyway?

Just a Note about Vampire Weakness:

Driving a wooden stake through the heart won't paralyze the vampire unless they are in their resting place. Had a DM make that abundantly clear after we spent two rounds quick whittling a quick wooden stake and then wasting a turn using it.

A vampire can enter the home if it is not fully enclosed. If you have a window, a door, or any part of the building open, a vampire can enter your home without a direct invitation. This isn't listed under normal vampire, but instead is listed in CoS. Which is weird, given that Strahd has absolute dominion over Barovia, and as lord of the land can conceivably be said to own every piece of property (meaning he doesn't really need permission to enter)... I dunno, squatter's rights, maybe?

I think the best advice I can give for running a vampire comes directly from Jojo's Bizarre Adventure part 2.

The gang are descending upon a vampire's fortress, when they're reminded that the vampires they're hunting have lived in these conditions for thousands of years; being confined to a singular tower while people with super powers are hunting them.

So they know how to counteract weakness with lifetimes worth of preparation. Learn their weaknesses, stack the odds in their favor in spite of them.

Why shouldn’t you let a player be a vampire?
Cos they suck the life outta the party

In my world, a vampire family is like the mafia, they run organized crime with humans and other races as henchmen.

"Infamous games"
So inFamous 2 has a DLC called Festival of Blood that deals with vampires, and I'm wishing for a time machine.

The setting of Grim Hollow that just got released has rules for being a monster, vampires included, and it actually puts agency on behaving as a monster while giving you enough room to put your own flavor into it. Basically by giving you a time limit before you have to kill again or you lose control.

It even has a seperate leveling system with boons and mandatory flaws for each monster stage with it's own requirements to progress to the next stage. Like for Vampires establishing a coven or learning from a more powerful vampire while also being a certain class level gets you to the next stage to pick a boon and to add the mandatory flaw.

I'm playing a low level vampire in the current campaign my dm is running and most of the party doesn't suspect it because I have been keeping the signs on the downlow. You would be surprised how little certain parties pay attention to the support roles. The only people who know are also monsters but I don't wanna say too much cause I know members of the party watch these videos.

1:45 "Both on the field and in the sheets, their weaknesses are many."
I remember rolling a nat 20 while using a Sun blade in Curse of Strahd, but that line was far more damaging.

My suggestion for vampires: keep some of their weakness, or all of them, and scrap other, or all of them, and add your own, the problem with vampires in D&D is how well we know them and their weaknesses, so changing them will make them a lot more compelling. (My suggestion is researching actual stories about vampires like the original dracula, that's where you learn about interesting weaknesses like an obsession with counting causing them to drop to the ground and count the jelly beans you threw in front of them like their a mom running one of those guessing contests)

An example of the second type of vampire is Diavolo from jojo part 5. Also, DIO goes from type 1 to type 3 in his respective parts too.
