Here in the desert, The signs are the only green object you will see for miles.

There was a study back in the 80’s that showed the human eye was more sensitive to greens than to reds. This caused a temporary shift for many emergency vehicles to be painted a bright highlighter yellow-green for a time. For whatever reason this short lived fashion died out rather quickly and now emergency vehicles are commonly red again.

Green in Australia, too. The sky is always blue, so green is a nice contrast

Interstate highway signs were originally Blue. They changed to Green, because blue was hard to read at night because of reflectivity. The human eye can see more shades of Green than any other color because it’s in the middle of the spectrum of light we can see.

I love this guy. Look at him staring into the distance on the train like a lunatic.🤣

I feel like a light blue can easily cause the sign with the text to become "blurred" out of our vision, while the green signs can blend in with the huge amount of trees we have, but the text will be able to stand out amidst the dark greens of the trees. Also, it's not just America that uses them, we do as well here in Canada :)

Whereas the use of red glasses would make our eyes go around in different directions 🥸🤪 Hahahhahaa

Green probably gives a better color contrast to the white lettering without causing too much strain on eyes tired from a long road trip, or some such like that.

Okay but actually the red sign drawing the eye thing makes total sense. I’m from rural US where our red stop signs are often askew - either bent from where someone hit it, or turned weird, or just at an odd angle - and I can’t count the number of times I’ve nearly stopped for a stop sign that wasnt even for the road I was on

I love how you showed sock footage of Cuba for post war1950s America
Edit: I made a typo, but I am not going to fix it. Just making an edit to tell everyone this.

Fun fact: before green was settled on, some highway control signs used black with reflective white lettering. There was such a sign near my house in Auburn CA growing up, and was only changed probably a decade or so ago
