We must remember Vergil’s first words to Nero:
“Thank you, Nero.”

Funny how V was with Nero together to fight Demons, but he is secretly Vergil so he can spend time with his son and no one will know about this or notice it

nero only knew that v was vergil near the end of the journey and learned only recently that vergil was his dad so Vergil got to spend time with his son withouthim knowing as V in a sense

Vergil clasps a small, ornate music box in his hands. Soft wood painted with pastel reds over the top and pastel blues from the bottom, to blend into a lavender at the box's seam. Open, the box lightens the room with a delicate melody, almost hurtful in its hopefulness. A figurine of a blonde, singing woman in silken robes of scarlet and black spins on a pedestal to the song, at either side a white-haired boy done up in a waistcoat on a white long-sleeve and black slacks. The boy at her right hand - waistcoat scarlet - loosely clutches the handle of an acoustic guitar, his other hand in the woman's, face turned up towards hers. The boy at her left hand - waistcoat royal navy - caresses the strings of a violin with a bow, posture straight, hand positioning impeccable, and eyes closed in concentration. Smiles play at the lips of the figurines.
Engraved in the underside of the lid are the words: "For my sons, through whom my soul flows forth. You are my strength."
_Vergil's mother smooths his hair as he curls into her left side. Dante's head brushes Vergil's as he shifts closer to Eva on her right. Slowly, the twins' eyes drift closed to their mother's voice, a serenade to soothe fears and inspire hope, though Vergil blinks his eyes open every so often - he refuses to sleep before his brother does._
_Dante grins at him, gentle, and reaches over their mother's lap to entwine his fingers with Vergil's._
_The brothers fall asleep together._
"Vergil? There something wrong?"
Vergil opens his eyes and sighs, a touch fondly. The room went quiet several minutes before. He carefully presses the lid down, fingertip tracing its seam.
"No, Nero. It's nothing."

I love these remixes - with all these chaos in the world and blood in games these make me... calm.

"I'M NOT LETTING YOU DIE!"
These words roared from far beneath the top of the Qlipoth, and yet they reached the ears of the abandoned Sparda. Something about this odd declaration... moved him.
Though it was far too late of a Time to think about these words.
Blood and adrenaline came to his focus, clouding his mind as he charged at his brother with all he had, every inch of his might, of shameful Urizens, strange V's, in some twisted part maybe even Nelo Angelos...
But just as Vergil was about to strike...
A bright blue light erupted from between the Brothers.
No, less of a light and more of a BEACON.
He found himself stopping in both mind and Body as a Blue demon prince kneeled between the Brothers of sparda. Yamato and Dante were grasped by his claw like wings and upon both of their chest this odd creature... radiating awesome Power... placed a mighty hand. They had Been stopped in their charge completely.
Vergil left his devil trigger, as did Dante at the sheer bewilderment of it all.
A Name was on Vergils tongue... was this his son?
Nero pushed them both back with one mighty shove. He himself returned as well, becoming human once more.
"This ends. Right here."
He had fought his son. Something about this odd claim, of stopping their fight, Sounds like a challenge to Vergils ears. It was long, brutal... and in the end Vergil came to a astounding revelation...
He thought... "He is my match"
Vergil surrendered the fight. There was no more Need. If his son desired to see him Life... fine... he would atone by cutting this tree, born from his own delusions.
He gave one last look at his son. An odd sense of pride filling him. How different could his life had Been... would he have gotten to know his flesh and blood better?
A promise of return was said, the book the child had claimed as his was given away... passed like a torch.
"Hold onto that until then"
And with those words... Vergil jumped, descending into the underworld...
It seemed that despite their differences both he and his Brother could agree on One thing.
The world of humans was in good hands with his son.
Nero... the Legacy of Sparda.
And one day... He would see him again... and nero would be even greater than he was now.

This song isn't about Nero and Vergil On the contrary: It's about Nero living all those years without knowing who he was because his dad abandoned him, and how he's reminded by Kyrie that no matter who/what he discovers he is, the people who he grew up with will continue to love him unconditionally.
That phone-call before the last battle truly broke my heart.

All these music boxes version.... It enough to makes me wonder, what if they're actually working together, hunting demons, living their live, having a family, and eventually witness Nero grown up to become the Sparda's legacy. In short, what if there's an alternative where this would happen?

i think that vergil probably made an extremely difficult decision, but one that he ultimately, even if it was deep down, hoped wouldn't come back to bite him: he surrendered his infant son to what he hoped would have been a much better home than he himself would have been able to provide.

sometimes the hardest thing is admitting you can't do something, and vergil had to admit that he just could not provide for another life, one that was incredibly dependent on him. he just wasn't in the headspace to care for a child...and he probably knew it, so he tried to find someone who could, if not take him in, at least get him to a loving home...maybe

and in many ways, he made the right decision: the people in the order did a good job raising nero...for the most part, at least. he had a stable home and probably a lot of people who loved and cared about him. we know he had credo and kyrie, and judging by how he reacts when dante rocks up and kills sanctus, he may have viewed sanctus as a stuffy old preacher, but also as a grandfather figure.

he clearly forgave dante for what he did and might even like and respect him, if not love him as a father figure of sorts, and we know kyrie had to have come with nero. he might have met nico a few times while in the order but didn't truly get to know her until they dissolved.

maybe some day, if the sons of sparda return, nero will be able to forgive vergil for abandoning him and, maybe, accept him as a friend
