Mirena is a T-shaped hormone releasing intrauterine device that can provide long-term contraception along with less painful periods. It works by inhibiting ovulation and make endometrial lining thick. Mirena contains Levonorgestrel of 52 mg. Other types of levorgestrel releasing devices include Jydes , Kyleena and Levosert etc. Along with providing contraception, Mirena is helpful in relieving symptoms like dysmenorrhea, premenstrual syndrome and preventing endometrial hyperplasia etc. The contraindications of Mirena include known or suspected pregnancy, active liver disease and hypersensitivity to the constituents of preparations.
