Our male pigeon Joe behaves the same when he's on the eggs (he'd be even angrier if he found out the eggs magically turned into plastic ones a few days after Miss Pidge laid them) - Joe takes his dad duties VERY seriously and spends more time on the eggs than Miss Pidge the mum. Miss Pidge is a placid, friendly & slightly dizzy socialite and Joe is a tough no-nonsense male.
Don't under-estimate the attacking powers of a pigeon like Joe when he warns you with his blood-curdling coos (which can be heard halfway across a quiet room with the TV off), and his savage attacks have been known to bend arm-hairs.

Actually the pigeon is in a nest protecting eggs, when it comes to protecting those eggs they will fight with anything to protect 'em, even predators.

It's funny how the first thing they do is inflate their chest to look 'menacing'. I have mourning doves nesting in my flower baskets every year, and they react exact like this with the chest inflation and wing whip when I get too close when tending to the flowers.
