YouTube sponsorship scam emails target creators. One such scammer is impersonating a company called Rainway, and they're more sophisticated than the average scammer.

Good reminders as many seem to fall for one type of scam or another. We should never think it can’t happen to us!

I have no paid subscriptions what so ever, so if I see anything regarding a new year plan has started I immediately delete the email, some clever scammers can insert software so when you just open the email you are 🤬. People just be careful and never assume a email is safe.

Too good to be true! As you say! As a rule of thumb, someone who offers you money isn’t!

(Including and especially HM Government!)

The first scam mentioned appears to be the beginning of a "refund" scam.
Scammers would want remote access to your PC in order to give you a refund, They then would add extra digits on a fake refund form & then request you give the extra money back to them using gift cards.

YouTube ads are full of scams, such as the currency trader advert.

I've been getting many messages on my facebook fanpage proposing collaborations of that sort, requesting me to post their 'articles' and getting paid up to $3k monthly. Yeah, as if! 😂

Anyway, great channel, thanks for sharing your experience and expertise!

Watching a YouTube scam advert about a device that can cool your home is less than a minute for 1p

VPNs are sort of scammy. They are handy for watching geolocked Netflix, but they do not make you untraceable

Low effort scams are low effort purposefully. It's basically a litmus test for victims. If you fall for the lazy scam you are the kind of person they want to target, either because you're completely clueless about how the internet and security works so they can fleece you, or more likely because you're an addled elderly person who is lacking some critical reasoning and clearheadedness that would alert you to the weird things in their scam (like pretending to refund you through the cmd prompt of your computer, and claiming gift cards from other businesses are acceptable payment methods). Such emails are often intentionally misspelled as well, just to ensure they waste as little of their own time as possible and only funnel ripe victims to themselves. You might think that sponsorships to youtubers preclude this kind of victim, but there's plenty of moderately successful youtubers out there who just upload videos and don't put much thought into it beyond what they want to upload, and so they're not tech-savvy at all and have definitely not done any sponsorship research.

I get 2 or 3 .ee or .cz or .ua requests to put ads on my channel every day. The claim to be Levi Strauss, gaming companies, everything. I just instantly block and delete...without even reading them.

Never heard of, or delt with, a firm who sends an unexpected email? Ignore.
We're always getting emails from firms alleging we owe them money. Since we have never heard of them, let alone ordered any services from them, they get deleted. The bait of an unexpected debt is alarming enough to a few people to trick them into replying or click-through.

Have seen adverts on YouTube where if you sign up they send free products to you. What is there angel and what do you make of it.

I recieved an email from Hunt a Kiler. It looked legit. They just stated they found that my channel fit what they were looking for. They asked my demographics what my rate was and they looked forward to talking to me about any questions. I replied back a few days ago with answers so far no answer. It looked legit but of course I am always skeptical.

All sponsorships are scams, they try to convince the channel creaters into thinking that whatever deals they offer are for your bennefit
and will help your channel grow and generate more income.
I refuse them all, unlike some who make a good living from Youtube, i want to do what i want and how i want it without expecting my
subscribers to endure a sales pitch for unwanted products or services.
My pet hate are VPN's and Amazon, a lot of channels push these down your throat expecting you to buy from them via the channels link.
Youtube needs to take a firmer line with the sponsors and scammers.

I've had a few creator sponsor scam emails in my 9 years on YT. One was offering to partner with me and they would advertise my channel in exchange they would take 40% of the revenue my channel made and I was told I had to make at least 5 videos a month. They sent me links to other channels that they 'sponsored' and most of them just had 10-15 subs. 😂
