How to adjust the gap of the crown bevel gear

The adjustment of the crown gear is not just a matter of clearance. Generally speaking, the clearance is better to adjust, mainly due to meshing marks.

After replacing the crown pinion , first install the pot tooth or big wheel on the differential case, then fix the bearing seat and nut on both sides, basically preset a position, install the small wheel (angle tooth), small wheel

The tooth surface is coated with colorant, usually red lead powder. Use your hand to move it to see the color of the tooth surface. Adjust it until the print on the tooth surface of the large wheel is small, but not the end of the tooth. One of the adjustment positions is to adjust the flower nuts at both ends of the big wheel, and the other is to adjust the thickness of the washer behind the small wheel. As for the gap you mentioned, you can use a lead wire to squeeze the tooth side, and then measure the thickness of the lead wire after extrusion. The specific backlash requirements depend on the modulus and working conditions of the gear to judge, but there is no problem with the conventional 0.3~0.4mm.
