335 Final Tear-Down of the John Deere Mower Conditioner

After getting everything torn down on the John Dedere 1219 and looked over, I've come to a few conclusions as to what issues were happening and the sickle bar keeps breaking! Feel free to weigh on on the issues and anything else you see!

The hay mower breaks brand new sickle bars after just a few acres and has been getting very expensive to replace.

You know, for all the struggles and challenges that even the most mundane aspects of farming bring about, you deserve a real pat on the back for taking this all on and having the courage to want "something better" for you and your family. Growing up, my dad was a civil contractor, roads, bridges, and the like and mom ran our 80 acre farm. Although my mom was not a gear-head Michigan girl, she did take on many of the same challenges you do. So your vids bring back a lot of memories to this old guy who watched his mom do pretty much the same thing you are now, only back in the '50's and '60's when farming WAS NOT COOL and in many regards, even looked down upon. Wishing you and your family the very best...

That's so frustrating; especially when there's a time crunch. Hope you get it going by installing the sickle first, and then the rest. Fingers crossed, knocked on wood, salt thrown, prayers said! Great video!

those things can be tricky to adjust, maybe you can ask an old time farmer whom is acquainted with using and adjusting the sickle bar, Guards, and Ledger plates, might have some tips like using the carboard box as a "Feeler Gauge" to make sure there is enough clearance between the cutter bar section and the Guards. that was the tip i was given to set the Points on a 1956 International Utility Tractor. Good luck with the repairs. keep up the videos and the good work.

I have been following your frustration with your mower. My experience of over 50 years of haying is definitely go for a disc mower, you will not regret it. Years ago we used a haybind but switched to a disc mower when the haybind just couldn't handle our heavy crops. I would never go back to a sickle bar type mower. We use a 3 pt hitch disc mower without a conditioner, then ted the hay. Our experience is we can dry hay faster this way. Using a disc mower is best described as cutting butter with a hot knife. Disc only mowers are less expensive and easy to maintain.

I cut about 200 acres a year with a KHUN disc mower and love it. No issues. Just hammer down and mow. Change all fluids every winter and grease regular. It’ll out last you if taken care of

Classic fight between Grass and mower. Mower 0 grass 1 Grass just waiting to give knock out punch. Thanks for the entertaining fight Suzanne and so far nobody got hurt.

A disc mower is the way to go. The blades are easy to replace & they can run for a long time. We have a 9' 3 point mounted New Idea mower & the biggest breakdown we had was when a wood post got in between 2 of the "turtles" & it broke some teeth on a gear. We used to do 40 to 60 acres a year with it. But since we've sold the cows we're down to about 16 acres a year. You are more than welcome to test run ours if your down in southern IL to see if a disc mower would work for you.

The grinder with no gard on it is extremely dangerous especially in difficult positions like that . I think if you 😁😁actually when you get it back together and get this hay season finished trade it in for a disc mower with or without conditioner far superior machine and you can cut in a higher gear .. realy enjoy your videos god bless 🙏

I don't know if you have a newer 1219/1209 with non clog knife guards and can't see what you have there but there aren't supposed to be any hold downs onthe first two and a half guards on the drive side that helps clear the drive side straps

Hi great videos, suggestion for long term health. Wear hearing protection and when grinding at least a dust mask to keep the small fillings out of your lungs. It does make a difference trust me . Thank you.

You to sell the mower and buy a disc mower

I WOULD NOT WELD those bolts on... if you happen to break a knife out in field you would have to slide whole bar out to replace.. they are the way they are for a reason.. if you break a blade knife you can remove the hold downs and knife guards and replace that area easily.

I have a buddy that has a disc mower and when I compare me mowing compared to his disc mower I prefer the cleaner look of field after i mow with my 1209 then with his disc mower. Its all what you prefer..

That also puts a half guard on the other end if I remember right. It was 2006 when I worked at the dealer.

Good stuff Suzanne, grade 8 bolt is probably a little better, and if You do decide to upgrade, maybe consider one like Travis has, that, I think is a serious cutting machine:):)

Agree with Sneeze Acres in field repairs would be very difficult and even going to the shop would still require cutting
