I've really been enjoying my time in Madrid over the last week -- it's my first time here!! While there are many things I admire about Spanish culture, nothing stands out more than the SIESTA CULTURE (or short power naps after lunch).

Have you ever heard of a siesta before?

All of the stereotypes are true (especially in the summer months) -- people really do take siestas here and it's magnificent! Why can't we have a siesta culture in the U.S. as well? It makes a lot of sense!

Comment below if you love taking siestas like they do in Spain!

This is how it is supposed to be slow, laid back and a relaxed culture with less of an emphasis on work. Proud to be Spanish.

I had no idea this was a thing until I was in Madrid looking for food at 3 PM. I had never been so confused in my life.

I feel like taking siestas after every 30 minutes. 😂😂. I'm glad that they've coined a term for afternoon nap.

Shops are usually closed from 2.30 to 5 in the afternoon in India.

The siesta, in Madrid things are slowing down but when you go to the hottest Spanish cities like Cordoba or Sevilla, they become ghost cities, it's so insane 😂

It quite peculiar to see how someone from another culture is amazed by something which feels usual to me. Of course it happens to me the opposite way around with other Drew's videos but at this one I couldn't help to think "yeah siesta and sobremesa man, what's surprising?" Even though I'm from Argentina it's pretty much the same here.

Love this videos, good luck man!

I remember when Spaniards came to the Philippines (way back during the Spanish settlement in the country), they mentioned about the indolence of the Filipinos in relation to the afternoon nap which we fondly called also as "siesta". In fact, it was them who had introduced the culture to us. And now, siesta is also a common thing in the Philippines. But we always take our meals on time, without also compromising the time to socialize or interact with our friends and families. Filipinos and Spaniards share almost the same culture.
The past history did a great impact on the lives of the Filipinos today. They may not be here today in the Philippine soil, but their culture and tradition remain in us.

Looks like the Spanish people and the Bengali people has something in common. We also eat a heavy lunch and we always eat our lunch late. And after lunch we take a nap which some of us calls ‘Vatghum’. It's a part of the Bengali culture. 🇧🇩❤️🇪🇸

This is also normal in France. But yeah when I'm on holiday in Spain, I'll also take siestas because waking up after a siesta is the best feeling ever

I've read documents from travelers to the USA in the 19th century who were appalled by how quickly we eat our meals. I think there's something to the siesta that we need to embrace. We might be a superpower, but look what it's cost us.

Lol in the Philipines I live with my grandparents and whenever it's 1:00-3:00 pm my Lola always tells me to sleep because it's good for me, now I realize it's just Siesta.

This concept was actually found in Middle East before. Muslims call it Qaylula which is a midday nap
