Interesting story and being from Chicago I never heard of this and can see how this fire was overshadowed. I never heard of slash and while I had heard of a firestorm I really appreciate you explaining things.

I live a only a few miles away from Peshtigo and it is indeed a nice, quiet town. There is no traces of the fire really left, probably because this area is all somewhat of a marshland, but every September there is a festival in memoriam of the fire, with a walk and all that to remember and draw awareness.

Being from Wisconsin I learned of the Peshtigo fire when I was young. (In the 60s). It was a terrible disaster. I spent time in that area in the late 70's. I lived in Pound WI and later in Crivitz and worked in Marinette. My sister and her family lived in Peshtigo. A lot of nice people around there. Heard a lot of horrible stories. Thanks for doing the story but one mistake. It's not Door Pennsylvania. It's Door Peninsula. Door county is Wisconsin's thumb.
