My wife is an ardent lover of all Jake does. I even took her to Warsaw a while back, as a present to watch him there and enjoy the city (fantastic city). I'm hardly a fan but I do appreciate much of what she is constantly playing. This is a particularly sharp social musical message. Far too many have allowed themselves to become the zombies of this song. Not sure if Jake is pushing the blame for this state of mind on any other entity other than the individual him/herself.
For sure the individual no matter how hard pressed does not have to succumb to this. Far too easy to blame - G'ubment, "Them", school, social services etc etc etc. He had the gumption to get himself out of his predicament and so can everyone else no matter how hard put on they feel themselves to be. Nobody has to be a victim of this unless they wish it to be so - he is living proof of that.
Well done Jake - pulled up by your chinstraps as we would have said when I served decades ago in what gave me the window to the world and the determination to open the window and go and see for myself.
And thanks for making my lovely wife smile and sing whenever she hears your distinctive voice and style. Love the lyrics of this and your guitar work is top notch.

I absolutely love Jake Bugg!!! I’ve been a fan since his first album!!! I saw him during that tour, when he came to Los Angeles. I saw him at the Henry Fonda theater and he was absolutely incredible. My buddy Anthony; who was with me for the gig, shouted out, “Nottingham”, and Jake gave our a little smile. It was one of the best shows I’ve ever been to.🕺😎
