Don't Come to Vung Tau

It's truly a local place as the only foreigners you will see there are older gentlemen who are married. Otherwise it's simply a weekend get-a-way. Some things to note - don't stay near the beach. Places are over priced and old. The beach is not particularly nice as well.

Do see the light house, the statue and take the sky car up the mountain. There are plenty of cafes which are all extremely busy Sunday morning. It's a good city for 1 or 2 days max.

The best way to get here is the ferry in Saigon or to take a bike down. The police are not corrupt and will fine you and confiscate your bike if you're caught without a license or insurance. You can also take a bus. The bus is easy to get to Vung Tau but a total disaster coming back as traffic is very heavy. If you do take a bus back, budget a 6-8 hour return home trip.

Anyways, Vung Tau is nice enough. I won't be going back any time soon. I'm just glad Vietnam is back to normal again.

Vietnam War Veteran here. I knew this city in 1966 during my first tour. It was a place of relaxation appreciated by the soldiers... I went back there in 68 and 73 for my last tour as an ARVN instructor before the fall of Saigon. I went back there with my wife in 87 to visit her family whom she had not seen since 1975. Finally we bought a house in the "big mountain" in 1999 for a few dollars... We go back there every year to spend the summer. It is actually not recommended to do tourism on weekends because many people from Saigon and around come to spend the weekends and the port city is loaded with traffic. I still intend to spend my last years there, far from the woke madness that affects America.

Your portrayal of Vung Tau is so off base. Phu Quoc is awful with all the construction everywhere and high prices. Vung Tau is awesome all week long. Stay until Monday if you don't want to deal sitting in traffic. Drive down on a motorbike only takes 2 1/2 hours. A 9 passenger VIP luxury van is the way to go. A one night stay doesn't give you a fair perspective of the city. Lots of expats call it home because of the lower cost of living and the clean air.

Thanks for watching. Sorry for the wind noise. Due to feedback I've since fixed the wind noise by attaching a sponge with an elastic band over the microphone section. Makes a massive difference.

I've been to VT more than a dozen times. It's an acquired taste. The locals don't harass you into buying their junk. The apartments are cheap and comfortable. It's a relatively safe place. There are local beauty spots and interesting things in VT, but you have to know how to find them. It's probably not suitable for a 2-3 day visit.

Don't go to Vung Tau on week-end . It's always crowded . You should to Ho Tram resort and casino too . It is owned by a Canadian company . The scenery and the food there are pretty nice . Don't forget to eat seafood , banh khot ( a speciality of VT) and BBQ there . They are quite good and very affordable ( prices are higher on week-end)

When I was young, back in 1970s, our family often travelled to Vung Tau for a weekend trip. Vung Tau was very popular at the time!

ehm ehm i Visited in 2023 and I really enjoyed the place! I was not there during the weekend. I do not know what you are looking for when you are traveling but Vung Tau and Qhi Nhon are two places I really enjoyed. More than Danang and Nha Trang. I had that little feeling of discovering something new, something a little different and out of the usual tourist route

Being my hometown I can tell you that Vung Tau police are chill, not like Saigon or many other cities. Even if you're unlucky enough to be caught riding dirty, they're not interested in a big hassle or taking your bike, they just want to make a quick easy buck off you cause you stand out from the locals. Then again, when you're a foreigner in Vietnam especially a touristy place like VT, which local isn't.

Spent 5 days there last July and was pretty bored after the first day or so. Definitely check out the place but a day or two tops is all you’ll need. Great Video.

I agree with you 100% it dirty place due the people did not care too much, they eat, drink, smoke and throw trash everywhere. I feel sorry for them, they need to learn how to keep the beach clean like unite state.
