My mother grew up in Tennessee witnessed a lynching as a child in the early 1940's. She told me the story many times and she had lifelong trauma from it.

Lynching did not “end” in the US. James Byrd Jr. was lynched in 1998, and there have been others since.

The name of the pregnant woman who was lynched in 1918 is Mary Turner. She was eight months pregnant when she was brutally lynched by a white mob on May 19, 1918, in Lowndes County, Georgia. Mary Turner was targeted after publicly denouncing the lynching of her husband, Hayes Turner, the day before.

“ A man was lynched yesterday” a statement though less common can still be true in today’s time. Just last year in September Javion Magee, a 21-year-old truck driver was found dead due to an apparent lynching. As well as others yet no social justice, no arrest. This is outrageous

The NAACP, Walter White, & everyone else whose efforts contributed to the passage of the Emmett Till Anti-Lynching Act on March 29, 2022, exemplify the idea that “the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice, ” as stated by the Honorable Martin Luther King Jr.

The book “Black Like Me” about a white man that made himself black and went through the south is an eye opener too. I never understood this kind of hatred. What a black hole in the people’s hearts that can behave like this.
