All solor eclipses travel from west to east. The moon is almost 250, 000 miles away, and moves much faster than the earth rotates. Do your homework.

I still don't understand how the shadow of the moon (if it is 2, 159 miles wide) can only be ~70 miles on the earth...

When an object can never cast a shadow that is smaller than itself no matter how far or close the light source is...
