How To Stop Thrashing And Spinning Your Wheels

I received an email from a swimmer who said his 400m time is exactly the same when he goes as fast as he can, and when he swims easier. 'Spinning your wheels' is when you try to increase your speed with an increase in effort but you don't get any faster. Let's take a look at how to fix this.

This popped up just as I’ve been looking fixing at my (ridiculously low) stroke rate so thanks for this! I’ll definitely give it a try when I can next get in the water!

Wow, exactly what I needed. I swim 1 mile a day, nonstop... but slow, 37 sec per 25m length. With this vudeo, I csn work on my speed. Thank you.

This is amazing advice, will definitely try this out. Pools closed here in Germany but lakes are still ok with a wet-suit.

Really interesting, definitely when I try to go fast, am often disappointed, after all the effort and my watch says, nope sorry, that was your slowest length! Will try keeping my stroke long. My fastest lengths are always one and two but I can't sustain it :-)

Great video as always, sir! Thank you and keep them coming. I want to know about swimming. And I also want to know how you got those kids to sit still. :D :D

I definitely increase my turn over through the catch and pull when I try swimming fast. I'll have to try concentrating on speeding up the recovery instead, and see how that goes.
