Tonight, as the Washington Capitals played the Chicago Blackhawks we saw NHL history. Alex Ovechkin scoring not 1 but 2 goals officially tied Wayne Gretzky's all time goals record of 894. All Ovechkin needed was a hat trick to pass him for the record and with Chicago pulling their goalie with 2 minutes to go, Ovechkin had his chance. However, he wanted nothing to do with an empty net goal telling his head coach Carbery that he didn't want to be on the ice. This was a fantastic game and a fantastic night to be a hockey fan as we are truly witnessing a potentially once in a lifetime record being hit. I cover it all more in todays NHL hockey video!

The camera constantly shows Ovechkin's mother. But the mother herself is a two-time Olympic basketball champion. One of the best basketball players in the world at that time.

Ovi kisses the sky for his older brother who died in a car accident when Ovi was a kid. His brother introduced him to hockey, would drive him to the rink, and pushed him to be a great hockey player.

He has been doing that since at least his first NHL goal in 2005. He rarely talks about it but i remember watching an interview from 2005-07 time where Ovi explains the story about his brother.

I’ve always liked the Caps since the 80s when Scott Stevens was on the team. I’m a true Devils fan. I am so happy for the Caps fans and for Alex. Who would ever have thought someone would ever come close or beat Wayne’s record which has been untouched for many years. I will definitely not miss Sundays game. I’m rooting for you Alex.
