Rest in Peace Paul Di’ Anno (1958-2024).

I’ll never forget the many times I’ve played this song in Guitar Hero as a kid coming of age.

Everything about this song - themes, lyrics, sound, Bruce's bloodcurdling iconic scream - is the pure essence of heavy metal.

The intro gives me goosebumps EVERY TIME. This song is just something else, a one of a kind for sure, and definitely in my top 5 Maiden songs.

I grew up in this era, and when this album came out it scared the crap out of 95% of the people I knew. I was awe struck. And if I had to pick one song, that definitively etched Iron Maiden's place in rock history, The Number Of The Beast would have to be it. Bruce Dickinson's masterful vocals, the incredible guitar work, the drums, and the amazing stage show had a hypnotic effect on anyone that was fortunate enough to see them live, in concert. It has been 40 years now, and it's an experience I will never forget. There are no other bands like Iron Maiden, and there never will be.

they don't make songs like this anymore. Iron maiden songs are genius. I discovered them when I was 14, I'm 55 now and this song still send shivers down my spine.

I never.understood the artistic brilliance of Iron Maiden until recently. As a baby Christian at the time this song was released, I was too freaked out by this song. But I've come to recognize Iron Maiden as master storytellers through their music.

Fun fact: the scream bruce dickinson lets out in the intro of the song is a result of the producer constantly having them do different takes, and in this one bruce was so fed up he let out a howl with so much frustration pushing it he has never been able to properly recreate it.
