The RN did not do "very very very very badly" in round 2, they did basically just as well as in round 1, meaning they got over 10 million votes (vs 7 million for the left and 6 million for the centre). The reason they came in third in number of elected MPs is that the left and the centre made an alliance of practically everyone else against the RN.

Zeihan in the past admitted to immigration being necessary to propping up the labor market of Western nations headed toward depopulation—but he’s being disingenuous in not acknowledging that the so-called far-right (populists) of these countries have been rising in popularity because they’re worried about their national identity as a culture and they have every right to be too.

Peter's description of Mélenchon is good, but it's hard to beat Winston Churchill on Charles de Gaulle -- “He looks like a female llama who has just been surprised in her bath.”

Pretty accurate description of the political situation in France right now. It’s Jean-Luc Mélenchon who is the leader of the far-left La France Insoumise (rebellious France) party. The far-right coalition arrived third but the Ralliement National (National Rally) party of Marine Le Pen had the largest number of deputies.
