I watched my first English first division ( Premier now ) game in 1968 at age 13. It was great, a physically hard game with fouls etc, but NO-ONE rolling over feigning injury to get an opponent booked or sent off. This continued for quite a few years, but then European players began to play for English clubs and they were diving, pretending to be hurt, and getting innocent players booked and sent off, sadly some British players also cheat. I've forgotten how many times the F.A., and other governing bodies have said they will clamp down on cheating players and ensure these cheats will get booked for simulation. It is 2024 and we still have cheating players and although some get booked for simulation many are not. It has spoiled what many of us older fans and spectators, rightly called 'the beautiful game', as it used to be.
