Summary
Mass Effect: Revelation is a prequel novel to the Mass Effect trilogy, by Canadian science fiction writer and lead writer of the Mass Effect video game, Drew Karpyshyn. First published in 2007 by Del Rey Books, it is the first novel set in the Mass Effect universe.
The book serves to fill in much of the background details of the game, such as locations (including the Citadel), the internal politics of the Council races, and some of the science involved, as well as introducing characters such as David Anderson. A considerable amount of the plot revolves around the galaxy's views on artificial intelligence, as this is a major plot point in the game. It also sets up the game's main villain, Saren Arterius, and how he came to be involved in the events sparked by Sidon.
The book is featured in Mass Effect 2 as a purchasable souvenir at the Zakera Cafe. The book's description in-game says that it is a military history novel detailing Saren's early missions before the events of Mass Effect.

New found respect for Anderson, he was always a homie throughout the Trilogy but with this background lore he’s goated asf… definitely gives off Shepard vibes (in the best ways)

I remember reading this book. Revisiting really gives Saren more dimension than what we got in the first game and first time reading. I liked it.

I like how the action sequences are consistent with Mass Effect's gameplay. Even the character editor has a role here - so to speak (when a charakter takes melanin pills).

Awesome narration, especially Saren and Skarr. Very immersive

Even commander Shepard at 100% reputation points can’t hold a candle to ambassador Doyle. As far as I’m aware she’s the only mass effect character in history to pull a speech check on the council.

Such a great sci fi universe! It sorely deserves more content, another trilogy would be great.

Many Batarians were harmed in the making of this program.

This type of story is what we’ll be getting for the next Mass Effect game imo… lower level espionage 🔥

It’s cool to link the details in this to ME3 where Sanders works at Grissom Academy and how there’s obviously history and interest between Sanders and Anderson

Batarians gets slaughtered in this one. Gela is basically a stump after Skarr's attack.

I feel like there’s an alternative timeline where Anderson and Saran could’ve gotten along… kinda like a Shepard x Garrius thing

Allways liked the games' lore n also the author very much so for his darth bane trilogy. Yet somehow i can't get the thought out of my head, that this ip was explicitly started for the purpose, that sony get their own "halo", after diving into it's lore a lil' more recently.
I hadn't done this when i stumbled over the ME games initially and tho' neither a renamed copy, nor even the same game genre, their are certain foundational elements the story n world are build on, that clearly were heavily drawing inspiration from halo. It's like a teint impossibly to ignore now, each time certain elements get mentioned in any way.
Above all of course the reapers (flood/precursors), their cyclic whiping of the universe (flood's destruction of the leading species as a "test" meant to fail until their contendor species is ready for ut's turn), the protheans (forerunners) who were technically beyond anyone else n disappeared jisteriously, the keepers (huragok - the bioengineered maintanence creatures of the forerunners) who seem not really living intelligent beings n no machines either, being single minded in their intent to repair prothean technology.
Since halo started years earlier, it's obvious who copied who. What i must say is that i like the bigger number of species in ME.
It's actually weird that their wasn't much more story made in terms of novels with the opportunity that brings. Of course halo's story is limited into n around one galaxy only what excuses the smaller variety but given how many books could b made from that, which also take place inside a single decade of a more than year window of relevant history, even the main war of that story was 3times as long n the opportunities for stories that were not involving humans were barely started to be evolved.
With that mountain of potential even in halo's smaller scope untouched, just imagine how far this ME universe could've been taken.
