They are so fascinating, and yet I had never thought of them as potential pets, that is, until now. Not only can you keep giant silk moths, but they actually can be very reasonable to keep. This subspecies is capable of amazing feats that are considered goddess like.

I've never had moths but when I was younger, my dad and I would go out to the corn fields and rescue the monarch caterpillars before heavy machinery would ruin the milkweed. We had a mini butterfly "shed" that was screened on all sides where we grew milkweed and gave the little friends a home until they pupated and popped out as beautiful monarchs! It was always amazing to see the dozens upon dozens of butterflies released over the course of a couple weeks when I was a kid.

I have had a soft spot in my heart for giant moths ever since I caught one of those awesome red and white giants by lake Tahoe. It didn't take long for the moth to chill in my hand, and I got to see the amazing details on it's face and wings. Truly special creatures, so unfortunate they only live a week as adults!
