My experience has always been original 40 being the loudest despite what they advertise. The original 40 does not have delta flow technology. The super 44 is a delta flow and is actually quieter at cruising speed. The OG 40 drones a lot more and has a constant growl going down the road. Some people love that and some don’t. When I had super 44s I could hardly hear them at all while in overdrive going down the highway. The OG 40s on same truck have a constant growling drone at same speed. Revving and wide open throttle they sound about the same. But the OG 40 is definitely louder going down the road in my experience

It is a universal muffler. Almost all Flowmaster mufflers can be classified as "universal mufflers". I have a 40 series dual chamber on my F250 with a 6.8L V-10. It has a distinctive deep tone at idle and right about 45 mph, it is most noticeable in city driving. At 70 mph, it's deep tone is noticeable but really not so much inside the cab. I just replaced the five year old rusted series 40 on my truck and truthfully, it sounded better than the new one. Lol

With the old one, it was loud...sort of a deep almost vibration sound but not annoying. It would set off car alarms if I passed too closely.

I should have gotten a single chamber instead.

Why is it that flowmaster videos have such loud music playing? It’s like they are trying to hide something. A lot of other videos out there but most set the camera two feet from the tail pipe. Guess you gotta know someone with a similar car /truck to know what it really sounds like.

In terms of exterior sound levels, the Super 40 is louder than the Original 40. If you are concerned about ground clearance, the Super 40 is larger dimensionally at 5" thick while the Original 40 is 4" thick. Both styles will produce very similar horsepower gains.

I just got a set installed in my mustang, the sound it's great and the car gained lots of horsepower, you can feel it when you step on the gas...I recommend them to anyone..

@dirtbikes72 The Super 10 Series (which we currently do not sell) is louder than the Super 44 muffler. The Super 44 is a muffler only. If you are interested in a complete exhaust system for your Camaro, our part # 378-17201 includes mandrel bent 3" tubing, the Super 40 mufflers and all hardware necessary for a bolt-in installation.

@MEXICANMADESTWR Yes, they do. Performance gains vary, depending on your application. The more power the vehicle makes, the bigger the gains will be. Generally in full size vehicle applications, a 5-7% gain of power is fairly typical, while 1-2 mpg can be achieved.

@TekMan05 Installing additional sound dampening in your Mustang is not going to help the problem. If the drone of the 10 Series is too unbearable, then you need to go back to the quieter mufflers. Adding any additional weight to your vehicle (ex. sound dampening) is going to offset any positive horsepower gains from the 10 Series muffler, which will take you right back to where you started.

@KyleParkin0 Without knowing more about your pickup and driving style, it is difficult to recommend one specific muffler. The Flowmaster 40 Series mufflers may be too loud for a daily driver, especially if you are used to Magnaflows. If you are looking for a milder sound, we suggest either the 50 Series (moderate volume) or 70 Series (mild-stock volume) for a daily driver. I have a Pypes true dual kit (with x pipe, mid pipe and street pro mufflers) on my 2008, great sound, hope this helps.
