Welcome to Go Incognito, a full guide to security, privacy and anonymity. This is lesson 3 of Section 1: Security vs Privacy! This lesson will explain the fundamental differences between digital privacy and digital security; and why one isn't the other. This is a common misconception in the community that is important to clear up before we continue throughout the course. Antiviruses are the perfect example between privacy and security, as described in the lesson.

Another great vid. I never thought about the chance anti virus companies being a risk to our privacy or security.

This helped me out a lot. Some things are still hazy for me, so I probably will have to re-watch it a couple times to get the full grasp of it. Keep up the awesome work. I am really excited for FOSS!

Actually the fact is TSA, in the us, is mostly security theatre. It gives the illusion of security (ie stoping people who are trying to blow up planes), but in actuality has little to no effect.

Nice Robert Green book! I commented on a video of yours pointing out you had missed some things right before go incognito came out. I just started watching the series, liking it so far.

Being secure is protecting yourself from damage. Being private is keeping the information about yourself with the least people possible.

This video is good but the "vice versa" part you told on the initial part of the video is not true.
Your data CAN be SECURED but NOT PRIVATE
But there's not instance wherein it CAN be PRIVATE but NOT SECURE.
Because when it is not secure, and data breach happens, (which ofc will happen); PRIVACY ISSUES cannot be dismissed.
BUT: Your data CAN BE SECURED AND PRIVATE at the same time! (Use Signal as your msnging APP!)

TL;DR: Being secure is like having a bulletproof glass house that you live in. Everyone can spy on you.
Being private however is like putting a large curtain over the house.

Are there any anti-virus software you’d recommend that’s probably good for privacy, or like VPNs do you just need to trust them to an extent?
