Same exact unit that I installed in 2000. Sure brought back some memories watching him scrape the sides and rake the ashes. Very important to check the water level also. I heard the damper close when the flames started heating up too. Good stuff.

We have the 6048 unit. Love it. Replacing the seal soon. Thanks for the video.

I bought my 6048 in 2015 and have loved it. It's WORK cutting, splitting and stacking wood and trying to stay ahead of it. I currently have a $900+ credit on my propane bill and it's been as high as $1300+... just from using wood during winter. I have a 12'x40' greenhouse I heat with a heat exchanger that SUCKS thee wood. If it weren't for that...I wouldn't use very much wood. BUT... I can grow beans and tomatoes or what ever we want all year long!!

My 5648 is 16 years old, try to take real good care of it, water ph 8-9.5 ash trol every day, the last thing you want is a catastrophic failure in the dead of winter, keep the water pH where it should be used ash trol, scrape it take good care of it glad to hear he got 20 years out of his and still going, that encourages me too

im in western wisconsin and mine is 10 years old. still on the original pump, door gasket, and solenoid to open and close the door....even though i did buy a replacement from the dealer(i figured i was on borrowed time with that part). The best thing i think you can do for your out door boiler is to run them as cool as you can. Mine is set at 155 deg F and it heats the house, all the dom. hot water you could use and a 2 car garage and i still only load it once a day. i also filled mine with glycol that i got for free from a demo job i did. the glycol makes the internal parts of this thing look like factory new even after 10 the pump looks like new when i took it apart last year. no rust...no scale...and it is still just as pretty pink as when i pumped it in. Also i only burn clean hard woods and cardboard and paper in it. no plastics or rubbers. 10 years down and hopefully at least another 15 to go!

We had our Classic 5644 installed Aug 2003. It just sprung a leak in the firebox last weekend. (11/26) So we had it & loved it for a good 20 years & took pretty good consistent care of it. Unfortunately I think that may be about the average life expectancy of these units -- 20 years or so on average. Recently invested in the Classic Edge 560. Very excited about getting it installed & getting started with it. Looking forward to burning half a much wood, too! 👍 Question, though: I've been watching a lot of these Youtube Videos about how great the Edge series stoves are; but have yet to run across any detailing any sort of problems (& troubleshooting tips?) might be reasonably expected to have to deal with? I know, with the 5644, it seemed like I was replacing solenoids every couple of years or so for a while there. (approx. 2006 - 2011) Also had to replace the pump once. As well as a couple of other service calls over the years. Also somewhat concerned about the quality of construction/materials/etc, nowadays -- compared with 20 years ago? Not expecting the new unit to automatically/necessarily be sub-par/problematic, here, by any means. But just want to be as informed & prepared as possible; for any potential problems that may crop up. Any thoughts/experience/feedback? Thanks!

What did he say he put in to “sweeten the ash”? At 4:08 in the video?

Has anyone tried putting wood chips inside the unit? Sounds like it would be toxic and not a good idea. What are your thoughts?

So do you still use the wood boiler in the summer and spring season?

In my book, that is a third of a cord.

So you're one of those guys that you do maintenance...but never said anything about checking water level or walking around burner to see if might be a puddle of water or chimney caked up.
