Innovations from Amsterdam / Jim-Bob Butoh (Shell)

Jim-Bob Butoh works together with his Shell Research Team on GTL. GTL stands for 'gas to liquids'. This is a process in which natural gas is converted into liquid products such as fuel and lubricants. The great advantage of products made from natural gas is that they are cleaner and produce better air quality.
A giant GTL plant is built in Qatar. This country holds one of the world's largest gas resources. Here, natural gas is converted first into liquid products and then transported all over the world.
In the Netherlands, GTL is already used in busses and lorries in and around cities. Since GTL engines emit less noise, both noise and air pollution in cities is significantly reduced.
GTL is a good example of a cleaner fuel for the future, which is already available today.
