James O'Brien's Grand clash with caller who'll vote for Boris whatever he does as PM. James O'Brien rowed with this caller who insisted he would vote for Boris Johnson whatever he says or does. James was discussing the government's U-turn over immigration, choosing a much more liberal path with their points-based immigration system. Gary from Grays called in - and admitted he had no problem with the Prime Minister lying and said he would vote for him again regardless of whether he does what he said he would do. Gary said: "You're knocking Boris, you're knocking the Conservatives. But it's the left that's at fault. If the Labour Party wasn't so poor... they're not offering anything for anyone to vote for." James pointed out he actually likes the new immigration policy and his question is how people who believed that the Prime Minister would be tough on immigration will be feeling about being betrayed. The caller insisted: "We don't care. He can do what he likes because at the end of the day, we could have another vote next week and until the Labour Party offers an alternative, he can do what he pleases." James responded: "I agree, but are you describing yourself as someone who doesn't care about facts or promises? "Boris Johnson lies to you and you say you've been 'persuaded' by him. "You're saying you will vote for Boris Johnson regardless of who he is, what he says or what he stands for because Jeremy Corbyn is such a wrong'un." James then asked Gary for one policy that put him off Labour and what followed is a classic James O'Brien call.

I love people who are gripped by beaten wife syndrome. Other people can't be better then the man who beats me.

People who "fell for it" will never be convinced that they fell for anything. To admit being duped would require that vestigial shred of personal character which would have precluded the adoption of all their most toxic and cherished opinions in the first place.

"I liked Tony Benn. That's why I voted Conservative."

This actually fills me with a glimmer of hope. Johnson can promise being "tough on immigration" and then relax the immigration rules. Promise to "remove the backstop" and replace it with a front stop (oops, already happened). Promise to "completely diverge from EU rules" and then keep a full alignment. And 17 million Garys of this world will be none the wiser.

The arrogance of the "Murdoch Media Machine" fed brexitfodder is amazing.
Reciting the "opinions" they've been told to have.

Sorry to sound so disparaging but Gary is a bit of a div. According to him (and many others) the Labour party are weak but they are nice people and he's pretty much on board with their policies. However he doesn't like being lied to and doesn't like the Conservatives, but they come across as strong, do they get the vote. He'd rather be screwed in the backside by a strong leader and party than built up by a humane leader and party. The state of the British electorate. I dont entirely blame ol Gary, for all weaknesses that are present in Labour (as all parties have their weaknesses) they are magnified and created by our majority pro Tory/ rightward press or increasingly pro Blairite orientated Guardian and independent pushing otherwise Labour party supporters away. Wearying to say the

There’s a bloke where I work said Johnson wasn’t fit to be PM but he still voted Conservative. You couldn’t make it up.

Jokes aside it's actually disturbing when you sit back & listen to callers like this. It reminds you of how people who you see every day are one election away from supporting a Dictator.

So stopping tax cuts for big corporate businesses and very wealthy & using that money to fund NHS, AND ALL PUBLIC SERVICES isn't a good policy. This is tax payers money, our money. And protecting workers rights, and a proper living wage isn't offering anything
