I’m gonna dive into the song choice and lyrics here for the theories. I do think Daniel did care for Lewis, probably admired him actually. But he’s saying things like “tries to soothe ME. Makes me feel like I belong.” Usually, that’d be very sweet, and imply a deep connection. However, from past comments, I know Dan has always been incapable of connecting with others on a deep emotional basis, so I think it’s more like; “I desire to be around you based off of how you make me feel about myself.” Maybe Dan took advantage of the things Lewis told him, possibly about more human civilizations and stuff. Maybe he worked off of that with his already slightly self-focused tendencies to make an opportunity where he could, as the song says, “freely MOVE.” And clearly, seeing where the two are now, something nasty happened along the way.

Daniel’s conflicting relationship with Lewis is really well shown here!! Especially the sudden frame where it just says “I will fool him”
It makes me think that rather than having bad intentions, he might think he WILL do something bad? I mean “I want to fool him” is obv diff to “I will” which is an inevitability 👀 I could be reading into it incorrectly but incredible work here!
