To briefly describe the game, this is a one-time purchase of an amusement park ticket, and you can ride them without any queues with your friends, as well as over time the park expands and provides new attractions, with an additional one-time payment. And you can ask, what if I suddenly stop visiting this park for some reason, can I enjoy visiting it when I return, the answer is yes. You will still see other visitors who ride old rides (old content that has not become outdated over time due to the fact that the game has a horizontal project).

horizontal progression is the main reason why people choose gw2.
The freedom of being able to choose your own goals without being forced by the game is priceless.
Not having the famous "carrot on the stick" makes the game well-balanced without any forced mental pressure.

No character level or equip level to chase with every patch/espansion.
No FOMO of missing out on past content because players don't make it anymore.
But instead the freedom to choose what content to play at your own pace and will.

Call it if you want unfairly “casual” but this method is great and should be applied to all mmo's.

Finding Guild Wars 2 after roughly 10 years of playing every MMO i could get a hold of, i can proudly say i've found my Home MMO. There is just so many Things to do and find in the World, small Details that are somehow connected to later Story is amazing. First playing my Norn Ranger(every Elite Spec is just a blast to play) i'm currently slowly inching my way onto other Professions and Elite Specs with my Guardian atm. After now /age 4661 Hours in the last roughly 3 1/2 Years i can say, there is still SO much i have to experience its kinda nuts and i cant wait to play even more of this beautiful Game. I hope you have many more Hours of Fun in this Game and find your part of it that you like and can stick to :D

Do not listen to people that tell you to jump straight to expansions. Many people skip to newer expansions to start grinding for fly mounts, the first expansion Hearth of Thorns had no mounts and was meant to be explored on foot and the whole map is your enemy and experiencing it for the first time with you already having flying mount just kills the vibe.
I've never been much of a story guy but hearth of thorns sucked me right into it, that I continued whole game chronologically. I own every expansion but I still haven't visited last two and I have 3K hours played. There is no rush, play at your own pace, your gear and other stuff will never be outdated.

Horizontal progression here means that once you get ascended gear (pink colored gear) your character will not get any stronger. Whole game is relevant, everything is scaled with your level and people are doing stuff on every expansion map, it's not like WoW that only newest xpac is relevant and rest is just for collectibles/achievs and you are one shotting everything there.

Welcome to GW2! We truly have one of the greatest gaming communities I've ever been a part of. We love new players and truly enjoy helping them. The steady stream of new players we get help keep the game we love alive and kicking. You will on occasion find an elitist asshat - but that's a rarity here in Tyria. Be sure to check out some of the wonderful guilds we have. They are great resources to help you on your grand adventure.

Gw2 community has been the most kind and warming. I made so many friends over the years, and everyone around is SO supportive! I've been playing since the first day! Glad you're enjoying it.😊

One of the things got me hooked back then was the fact that even if you got beaten, you won't just die, you'll be put in a downed state with many options to get back on your feet and continue the fight. The mentality behind this is just great, and the fact that GW2 even rewards the players who are actually trying to revive the others is amazing, that shows me they support a healthy behavior and mindset.

I have about 20 hours in this game so far, it has been so forgiving if you mess up. The exploring is amazing, and doesn’t feel tedious or empty.

I got to join some guys for a boss fight in a jungle environment, and the guy organizing it was soooo helpful.
I tried LOTRO, i tried BDO the first descendent, i tried rust and valdheim. All those games are fun in their own right, but this game comes with so little stress and so much fun with it, that i think this really will be my permanent mmo.

I watched you streaming the game, was cool to see someone have the same reactions I had when I started playing 2 years ago and you've only just seen 1% of its content, GW2 had gone under the radar for many years, I had heard of it but never actually seen any videos or advertisements for it I played WoW for over 15 years and quit after all the corporate BS a few years ago, I just could not continue to support a company like that any more no matter how good their product was.
But OMG GW2 is a REAL underrated hidden gem absolutely love the game, play EVERY day. the amount of "pros" it has compared to just about every other game out there puts it way ahead of most
Another thing with GW2 is the world map is absolutely HUGE but every zone always has plenty of people playing, every zone is also level scaled to to you so are the drops so its always relevant for everyone, there are NO dead zones like so many other games, this is a HUGE plus compered to 90% of other games

I’m so glad you like it. So many peeps check it out and for whatever reason, just don’t stick around. As you’ve mentioned, it is sans hype machine. A game with zero commercials, but a healthy population/fan base. And those of us who have been around since the beginning (or even since the first one) are super excited when someone new shows up and falls in love with the game as hard as we have. I love that you’re taking your time just to enjoy it. You will learn more that way anyway. And the thing with builds: the one you’re most comfortable with is the most effective. Forcing yourself into some kind of play style you’re unfamiliar with is defeating. Online build guides are just that, guides. A starting point. Yeah I know there’s this whole min/max thing, but unless you’re jumping into raids, or rated pvp, it doesn’t matter. If you’re not having fun, then we’re all doing it wrong. Just set your gear to your play style and you’ll be better off. And it won’t suck! Also, as a side note (for anyone new reading this): world bosses/dungeon bosses auto-tune themselves to the folks who showed up to fight. When it gets harder, it’s because you’ve gotten stronger. However, that works against us when peeps fully die and lay on the ground. Respawn, run back. Three people can’t fight a five man fight. (I mean, they can, but it’s harder, and longer, and oftentimes fails). Does that make sense? My mains: mesmer/ranger/necro/guardian. (Not in any particular order) 11 yrs. Don’t include me in the giveaway 😊😊

GW2 was made to answer and solve many of the issues that have plauged MMOs since the beginning. And it shows. They really did move the genre forward in many ways.

Well...infinity gathering tools is not really something you give to anyone that is starting, but the rest, food, bags...even a little bit of gold, or, if you are doing what we calll....a power build, some times we give a set with the power stats

I played QW2 a few years ago. And I come back some time to time to enjoy the world. For me it’s a real open world, you always have something happening near you, the world is such lively. For me the goal on GW2 is not the end game but the journey.

You really have such a benevolent way of speaking.
"I will try to be respectful in the house that I am in (...)".
Thank you for that!
Enjoy Tyria 😊

The no subscription fee is honestly what makes this game 10/10. Ive played since launch, but not continuously. I take breaks, sometimes for months on end, then I get that itch to open it again, and I can just jump in. It's fantastic

Osrs and gw2 are in my opinion some of the greatest games ever made. Glad you're playing gw2 as well!

What I love about GW2 is that all there NO outdated content or zones! Put the game down for 2 years and your gear is just as powerful and all the zones are packed even after countless expansions.

welcome to the gw2 family! :D
11k hours here since beta ~ what i love the most, is i can do whatever i feel like when playing. There is SO much to do, that whatever i decide to do - i will always progress. Even farming achievements is so much fun, because it often shows some more lore! I have only one daily buddy to play with but even without him, i never feel alone in the world :)
