paying $150 for a nap || Nappr

All I'm saying is if you are using a major event in a city to advertise your app that partners with hotels, maybe get more than one involved. Let's talk about Nappr, a startup that should have probably stayed on the drawing board.

Tbh this just seems like a weird way to set up Japanese love hotels in America

New startup idea: Crappr, which allows you to use other people's toilets when you're on the go and can't find a bathroom handy (for a fee, of course). Don't come at me all at once, investors!

Austin: no affordable housing, tent cities, massive swaths of homeless ppl

Also austin: tech ppl come take $150 naps

"You don't usually need a nap in the morning." Speak for yourself, Swell.

It reminds me of love hotels, 20 somethings still living with their parents could get the day rate for private time together

You mentioned safety. I would feel WAY less safe sleeping in my car compared to a hotel room. Not to mention vastly less comfortable.

Do yall remember when people were hiring others to just come cuddle them.

Let’s be real: This is probably not going be used for naps, primarily. Also, unpopular opinion, I guess, but we should just make public spaces more accommodating for people who need to rest in general. 🤷‍♀️

I was hoping this would be about nap pods. I feel like we could use those here.

I have Narcolepsy with Catsplexy, and have wished we had short term hotels like Japan for a while. Traveling for work sucks when you land 5 hours before check-in to the event hotel. Im exhausted from travel, my schedules thrown off, and I want go chill at least if not take a nap. Doctors actually basically prescribe us 15-20 minute naps to prevent sleep attacks. (Its not like the movies lol).

Being able to schedule ahead of time would ensure there's space for me in an expected situation like that. You make a great point though. There are many times I'd like/need one the day-of. I actually am entirely capable of driving long distances. Just like healthy drivers, I pull over if I start to get sleepy. But the only option I have is to sleep in my car. I'm honestly surprised rest stops don't have short term hotels.

Even as short as a 15 minute nap can "refresh" us (its not refreshing really because of the permanent tiredness, but youre back to your base energy level at that time). But sometimes it can even be hard for a Narcoleptic to sleep if youre uncomfortable.

Since my condition got worse in 2021, and I was finally diagnosed in 2022, I've become increasingly aware that, for a country full of tired people, we have no places to accommodate those that need a rest.

The extra $50 might've been a security deposit they didn't explain to you for some reason? I would guess you're less likely to see a hold for the "wrong" amount within the few hours you're at the hotel since banks can be a bit slow, hence why you only ever saw yourself getting charged the "right" amount

This really feels like some sort of middle man site that just connects people to day rate hotel rooms tbh

they're not even the ones providing the service, they're just a middle man. why would any hotel involve themselves with that? if they wanted to advertise it they'd just do it themselves

That's not a nap app that's a find a place to hook up app

I was sure this would be about capsule hotels. With all this office space open and available, it seems like you could rent a small space and put in a set of pods that allow people to get a quick rest in at any point and provide a full restroom or two to allow people to freshen up before going where they need to go. Not everyone business travels by plane. If you need to drive, not all of us feel safe sleeping in a car. It would presumably be available at all hours too. Even with planes, you may take a red eye, get in at 5am and then have no hotel option because check in isn’t until 3 or 4pm.

Here is Brazil it’s super easy to find, what we call, a motel that lets you stay for like 2h so sometimes when I’m travelling and just need a quick shower or something it’s the best place to go!

There's literally no hotels available for SXSW. Our city gets so many visitors, that anything within 45 minutes of Austin are fully booked. It's always like that during SXSW.

If it does places other than hotel rooms like the spiel said it could be useful for photoshoot locations but also it would ABSOLUTELY be used for crimes

If you need somewhere to hang out for a few hours go to a local library. You are safe, don’t have to buy anything, and have access to free wifi. You can’t sleep there but it is a good place to hang out.

Anyone else in Amanda's demo old enough to remember _Napster_ ? It's all I kept hearing in my mind's ear.

I used Napster "a lot". Back in my day. When I had to walk 6 miles through the snow just to use AOL Instant Messenger.

Never get old, kids.
