god, this is just such a bop from bo. I can't believe he had the audacity to surprise us with jams like this after he already blessed us with the outtakes

BRO I LOVE THE “Gee whiz, he got it and he flaunts
I am the thing he is, but he isn't when I want” PART SO MUCH. IT LITERALLY GIVES ME BRAIN TINGLES

This song is a BANGER. I've listened to it for multiple times to be sure I understand its meaning correctly.... Bo has a lot of (in a way insulting?) jokes about his father, but now he dedicated a whole SONG to him... Like what?! This song is underrated!

"My dad was happier than I am" hits me so hard everytime.
Not because his life was devoid of struggles, but It hurts extra hard knowing with what I make now I'd never be able to afford to have a home, or that much freedom on top of other things, something my parents were fortunate to have access to. But fuck if I'm not gonna try

"Some people really gotta fight to survive and some people are white guys in 1985" the accuracy in these times

Honestly, same. My dad in 1985 was regularly playing football and rugby. His acting career looked promising and his wife was about to give birth to a baby girl....shit, was I the reason his life went downhill??

I don’t think anyone understands how I felt when, “I wanna be my dad” to “My dad was happier than I am” came on. Such a fucking bop we were blessed with, but also why is bo in our heads.

It really is insane how much Bo has improved as a singer through the years

People finding him rasict and misogynistic not realizing he’s making fun of racism and misogyny 💀

My Dad was 22 and in the Army in 1985. The only stories I’ve heard from his army days(he NEVER talked about it) were from his best friend who would tell me “ there were wild motherfuckers and then there was your father who made other wild motherfuckers look tame” his hobby was apparently picking fights at Marine bars and his friend Mike said he never saw him lose one on one and saw him take 5 guys at once and hold his own. So fuck yeah I’d like to be my Dad in 1985. By 1990 though he was out of the Army, I was 6 and he was full on cargo shorts Dad.

"some white guys were italian"
Oh boy, why do i always feel called out? Like- my dad always tell me how his childhood was happy and at the same time how sometimes he was afraid of going out-
But nvm, Bo could never disappoint us and this is a proof

This shit is really deep. The whole Inside album is Bo going through his own difficult shit during a time when he was ready to go back into comedy. Then COVID. So he found himself in his guest house with all his fucked up thoughts and depression. Here in this song he is opening up how he wants the innocence that we (im white) perceive our parents lived through in certain "happy periods", notably the 80s in this song.

A very child like song.

my dad was a young doctor in 1985 living in his prime, travelling the world and enjoying life at its fullest, just years before meeting my mom and starting a wonderful family. he passed away last week, but I'll always have room for him in my heart, he was truly special. I love you dad <3

I can't believe that a year before the time this song is about there were multiple fully authoritarian governments which ruled the entire planet and we're in a constant state of war. Really makes you think about how much can change in a short time.
