My Dad was 22 and in the Army in 1985. The only stories I’ve heard from his army days(he NEVER talked about it) were from his best friend who would tell me “ there were wild motherfuckers and then there was your father who made other wild motherfuckers look tame” his hobby was apparently picking fights at Marine bars and his friend Mike said he never saw him lose one on one and saw him take 5 guys at once and hold his own. So fuck yeah I’d like to be my Dad in 1985. By 1990 though he was out of the Army, I was 6 and he was full on cargo shorts Dad.

Here in this song he is opening up how he wants the innocence that we (im white) perceive our parents lived through in certain "happy periods", notably the 80s in this song.
