About the Action
"Re-enacting Ayia Marina" aims to reveal the common cultural background between Turkish Cypriots and Maronites. Ayia Marina/Gurpinar is a unique mixed village where Turkish Cypriots and Maronites used to live peacefully together until 1964. Due to the events of 1963, the Turkish Cypriot community were displaced and had to leave the village. Several years later, the Maronite community were also displaced and left the village due to the events of 1974. Since then, the area has become a military zone. Although, the village has experienced deterioration, Re-enacting Ayia Marina has re-constructed the village by collecting photographs, videos, audio and text through a digital interactive 2D map, collated by the original villagers. The result is a moving digital portrait of inter-communal relationships in Cyprus.
