Imagine the stress on the vehicle when falling at the speed of sound at almost a 45° angle, it truly speaks for the sturdiness of the booster!
Also great camera work, i'd imagine it is not easy to track that thing :D

That engine was fighting those grid fins all the way down. You can see where the fins gave up their control (not enought airflow against them) and the engine was righting the problem.
With all that it still landed UPRIGHT and intact.

The Dragon capsule was from CRS-10. The booster was a brand-new Block 5.

100% the best footage of the failure I've seen. Was waiting for this video.

Amazing Video! The gimbal rates on the brave Merlin are insane, even with the roll rates it behaves like a 'Universal Joint' keeping the thrust vector where it needs to be even in such an off nominal situation. Kudos to the control team, and super kudos to the videography!

Surreal. What a great footage! And what an amazing control system, to finish the job despite grid fins stuck at the limit.

You guys did an amazing job tracking that booster!

I find it incredible that, despite the grid fins freezing in the wrong position, that the other systems on the booster (main engine, cold gas thrusters, landing legs) along with the software, managed to regain control of the booster and land it gently in the water. Incredible engineering!

Still surreal that the booster could correct and save itself. SpaceX just had a big malfunction and the rocket landed fine in the sea and was still working and sending data... how fucking amazing is that?. The engineers behind this thing...just wow!

so at 1 minute in the 50 M stick falling from the sky in a burning bright fireball loses control but still managed to make a soft landing on water like it's concrete...

I think this may be the best example of SpaceX technology. To save that rocket, when it looks like it almost hits 60deg, is stunning engineering, software & risk management. The fact SpaceX\Elon released their footage almost straight away confirms how proud they were of the save.Congrats to the incredible job tracking this puppy as well, you are taking amateur video production to next level.

The little gimbal that could! Absolutely amazing that the booster didn't break apart when it started to tumble.

I was waiting eagerly for this video. I saw the launch in person but I knew you guys would have the best footage of the anomaly. Excellent job as ever!

With that massive stress, the body landed intact. That's proves the Marvell of its engineering.

Ironically, this failure makes me even more impressed with SpaceX hardware.

Incredible footage with your new Tracking Camera Rig. That investment is really paying off! You should show off your camera rig at the end of these videos.
