Thanks for the info. What is the difference between and Irish Flute and a pennywhistle?

I am wondering about a few things. When I play the pennywhistle I have my right hand at the top. Also, I play closer to the ends of each finger instead of the pads like you do. Please comment on playing both of those ways. Is that as good or should I try to switch to what you are doing? The last question I have is that fact that I play on a $10 pennywhistle. Is a more expensive one better? If so, what would you recommend? THANKS FOR ANY INFO YOU CAN SHARE!!!

Well, some players play with the right hand at the top, but the convention is to play with the left hand on the top. If you ever intend to play Irish Flute or Uilleann pipes, you should switch. You don't want to play on the very tips of the fingers, more on the pads as finger tip playing makes it much more difficult to slide into notes or perform some of the ornaments. A $10 whistle is fine as long as it is in tune and can easily and reliably switch between the octaves.
