[SFM] Sonic Adventure 2 Recreation - You Thought You Could Trick Me With That Fake Emerald?!

A 3D SFM remake of one of my favorite scenes in all of the Sonic gaming franchise -- Eggman taking Amy for hostage with a gun, tricking Sonic into getting captured and Tails unwittingly letting the good doctor know that his assumptions were correct -- as far as the games go, this is the height of his competence. Something he never really got back, alas.

In addition to being my favorite scene, I have actually seen anyone DO this remake. Maybe it's because it doesn't feature Shadow or something. I dunno.

So, trying to learn a LITTLE about Blender, I got some practice doing VERY light modeling (editing Tails' Tornado and giving the Eggmobile a side gun), porting assets over to Source (the Tails vs Eggman 2 arena) and learned a tiny, tiny bit about texturing models.

All in all, I like how it came out. One of my goes doing this Sonic Adventure 2 scene was trying to capture emotion better than the original game could. I wanted Eggman to be cocky, Amy to be afraid, Tails to really doubt himself until the end, and Sonic to go out triumphantly. I also edited the scene a little, making Amy run to the pod -- felt it was an Amy thing to do.

Also, I felt that a large laser gun was more fitting for Eggman. Not opposed to him going dark this way, but make it fitting.

Of course, I wanted to animate everyone a bit more. That's, naturally, an important part to this whole thing.

If you're wondering about the legs on the Eggmobile and Tornado (or Cyclone, let's be honest, it's just a slightly edited Tornado model) I didn't make those. The legs come from the Death Egg Robot and the GUN Hunter robot. I just painted the Hunter blue. And hid the Death Egg Robot in the Earth.

Let’s just take a second to acknowledge that if Shadow didn’t try to be flashy and show off Chaos Control when he first met Sonic, then right here, Eggman would have actually really KILLED Sonic? It’s incredible how Eggman would’ve won here is Shadow wasn’t so grandiose about his exit.
Edit: Except for the fact that Shadow and Gerald had undermined him from the start.

Honestly, falling back in love with Sonic in the last few weeks, I've been going on a nostalgia trip; this game being one of my first and fondest memories of Sonic. I always used to love scenes like Sonic & Shadow uniting to fight the Finalhazard, or their first proper fight on Prison Island, but lately, I've fallen in love with this scene.

It's so well done - Eggman lets them think they've won, and from the hero's side of things, it really does look like Tails gave it all away from a random guess Eggman made being confirmed. What makes it even better is that in the dark story we find out that Eggman already knew, so he just lead them on to trick Tails into confirming it for him - just to completely crush his ego with his remark about how he'd confirmed it for him. After that, we get a calm Sonic, telling Tails he has faith in him, that he's ready to accept the fact he was arrogant, not cocky and smug like his usual self. Eggman sends the pod into space, where it blows up, and turns to Tails, expecting him to give in now that Sonic's presumed dead - but he doesn't; instead, Tails stands tall, declares that Sonic asked him to do something, and he prepares to fight - such a great moment for the character.

While I think Shadow vs the Biolizard is SA2's best fight in terms of character development and what it represents, this scene leading into Tails vs Eggman really is an emotional high for the story and the way everyone was written in this scene was absolutely 10/10 - and your reanimation has been nothing but faithful, detailed, and just so well done. I got the same hype watching this as I did as a kid way back in the early 2000s, seeing this scene ingame. All of this to say... well done - you've done a fantastic job. I'd also just like to say, I actually like that at 1:33, E.G.G.M.A.N starts playing - I think it's actually a better backing track than Suitable Opponent, and really works as a final standoff between Tails and Eggman.

I really truly do miss Deem Bristow. Sorry Mike pollock. Don't get me wrong I love Mike for comedy purposes but now the Dr. Eggman we have now isn't really all that serious. Anyway nice job on the video.

I don’t I’ve commented on this before, but you did an absolutely stellar job. I find myself constantly coming back to this animation, and I’m so glad you animated easily one of my favorite scenes in the entire franchise. I do gotta ask tho... how did you get that map?? Did you port it yourself though blender? I’ve been trying to port this for an animation for the longest time, but had no luck.
