Am born and raised in JB. I'd rather earn 3.5k SGD as a start than earning RM3.5K.

COL in JB is way over the top that a bowl of pan mee can go up to RM10-11. If I'm earning MYR, thats gonna be a huge pinch.

A bowl of pan mee cost SGD4-5. I'd be much happier earning SGD and spending in SG itself

I saved RM450, 000 within 2 years as a Big 4 manager in Singapore during my early 30s. I could have saved even more if I hadn’t lived just 15 minutes from the office or spent recklessly on food and other things—honestly, I spent way more than my Singaporean colleagues. You’d never save RM450, 000 working in Kuala Lumpur unless you're a politician.

Add info:
Thats why msians working in sg stay in JB. Rental rm1.5k~1.8k at Danga Bay(Woodlands border) or Forest City(Tuas border).

Save more but less worklife balance but thats the sole purpose you work in sg. Is to run SGD & get the hell out when you get the bag

Good luck everyone

My cousin who's an ACCA grad is earning over $10k in SG and he's only in his mid 30's, plus he's not a bright student but he works hard and spends wisely. The savings he can potentially accumulate is pretty massive. So yes, it was a better for him.

Another factor is TAX rate.
As an above average salaried working adult, engineers/finance/accountant etc..
Malaysia: Earns RM8k per month. Whatever more than 8k, it is taxed at a staggering 25%.
SG: Similarly, earning 4k SGD per month, it is taxed at 7%

Good take on working in Singapore. I've been working and living in Singapore for 15 years now. It is the best career decision that I've ever made.

Yes and no, Yes, if the person is single and not stay in SG...means must travel everyday to work from JB...the cost of living in SG so high..the rental is so crazy high that it is not economical to rent a room and cost bear by one person...and if you have family worse, the cost of education for PR child is also very high. No if you have family and with a a child with PR status and to rent a house, you need to have salary minimum SGD 6K above.

the public transportation in Singapore is punctual, clean, comfortable and reliable...it is also international class, meaning: you are under shelter from your apt to the boarding point.

I have a Malaysian ex colleague who worked in SG earning between 2.5k-3k (15 years ago) who works in Orchard and commute back to JB daily riding a motorcycle. His role didn’t hv much OT so he definitely made a splash.
He woke up very early to escape traffic jam and go back on time to hv dinner with family. It’s what you want to sacrifice to suit your lifestyle.

You missed an important point, SG only takes the most qualified/ eligible Malaysian. The ball is in their court 🤭

Great video, really breaks down the financials and lifestyle differences! I've been thinking about this move myself, and your points about the cost of living and career growth in Singapore are super insightful. However, the property and car ownership restrictions in Singapore are a bit of a deal-breaker for me, especially if you're not a PR. Also, the work culture sounds intense - it's something to really consider if you value a more relaxed lifestyle like we often have in Malaysia. Thanks for highlighting the pros and cons, definitely food for thought

Frankly speaking I believe Malaysians are the winners here as compared to Singaporeans..

Able to earn 3.3 times more just across a short border from the comfort of your own country and there’s no need to serve many years of National Service and subsequent in-camp trainings (if you are a man).

Just work hard for a few years, save and invest your money properly and you could be heading for an early retirement back in Malaysia.. no such luck for a Singaporean..

Malaysia boleh!

The best is work in SG, stay in JB. for me, i use kapcai to travel through Scd link, the total spent is only within SGD1K per month only (include rental in JB+food+petrol+VEP Singapore), the balance of my income is for my saving and invest.

Long story short, work hard in sg to maximise your saving then retire early in malaysia. Itll be a tough life but thats the sacrifice you gotta make. Good luck to everyone 🙏

It's simple. Working in Singapore for 10 years = working in Malaysia for 30 years. It's really a no brainer.

The only regret I have is renting a room in Singapore, Singaporeans treats us as if we have no lives and expects us to not be in the room at all times, and also as a foreign worker you tend to start work early and end work late so your choice of meal is probably just good enough or terrible and you cannot cook anything other than instant noodles

** Hi FROM KL here ** More than anything msians need to be grateful for this useful information - BUT i need to point out with FACT - now 10K RM cannot stay KL .. family with 2 children and CAR struggling to save anything after expenses. SINGAPORE total paid fully monthly housing mortgage including utilities = SGD $288. (Other including phone and internet = full total about $640.)
