With the recent arrival of our first baby, my wife and I decided to buy a Discovery 3 to use as our family car. It's practicable, safe and looks the part - representing serious value for money.

In this video I introduce you to the car, the reasons we bought it and have a quick look through the service history.

My dad used to have a Discovery 3 when I was a kid, and I thought it was a very nice car indeed. Ours was a 2005 (55-reg) HSE model with the 2.7-litre TDV6 diesel paired with the 6-speed automatic, and it was finished in a dark metallic blue (called Buckingham Blue) with the 'Alpaca' cream leather interior, which looked really nice.

It was September 2010, and I remember eagerly awaiting the moment when my dad would pull up onto our driveway in it, and when I saw PN55TZH pulling onto our driveway for the first time, I immediately went outside to have a look around it, and I remember being very impressed by what I saw.

Because ours was an HSE model, it was fully loaded with all the bells and whistles, some of which we’d never had on any car we’d ever owned before, including tri-zone climate control, heated rear seats, rear audio controls, etc, which 10-year-old me thought was very impressive indeed. Plus, its air suspension made it a very comfortable and relaxing car to travel in - as Jeremy Clarkson said in his Discovery 3 review back in Series 5 of Top Gear to describe the ride quality, "it doesn't go over bumps, it just flattens them."

Even to this day, I consider it to be one of my favourite cars we've had out of all the cars my family has ever owned so far.

Congratulations on the car and baby!

This car does definitely tick all the boxes. Whilst the garage is changing the timing belt, have them check if your motor has the updated/reinforced oil pump. Earlier versions cracked in the casing and the low oil pressure destroyed the engine.

Good luck!

You are a wise man thinking about your family's safety. I just bought a 2008 myself here in British Columbia. Sounds like you have the GAP tool? If not you might consider the Icarsoft i930. I bought a used one and am quite impressed with its scanning abilities. I don't think it lets you change settings like the GAP however its good for fault finding. I have had a 2008 L322 SC for a few years and have had no need for the GAP.

how many kms has it done? Great spec with good service history for 6500€ sounds pretty good. In Germany you would only find cars with more than 350.000 km for that spec and price. Great video

I have recently been given one due to nothing working since a mechanic fitted a new handbrake module..
Seems he couldn't get the plug out so cut and crimped all the cable's. Firstly i re did the connections by soldering . Got the menue up but still no joy..diagnostics couldn't talk to any modules but body control....tool out canbus cables from handbreak module, linked tbem and everything works ..except handbrake 😂

If you can do the work yourself they are great. Mine is a 2007, timing belt £75 if you do it yourself. Drop the oil very 5000 miles no matter what. Mine is cheap to manage but if you need a mechanic forget it.

Love the way Disco 3&4 looks . But from your video looks like they are more plastic like interior wise compare with L322 .
