SHIMMER Women's Wrestling - Mercedes Martinez vs. Sara Del Rey (SHIMMER Vol. 1 on Nov. 6, 2005)

At the debut SHIMMER event on Nov. 6, 2005 in Berwyn, IL, Mercedes Martinez and Sara Del Rey faced one another for the first time. Fewer than 100 fans were in attendance to see it live, but it's been watched by countless fans worldwide during the years since.

This match was one of the keys to the establishment of SHIMMER's identity, placing the primary focus on the in ring competition. Both Martinez and Del Rey would become two of the most important figures in the company's history, with a storied rivalry, and eventually holding the SHIMMER Championship.

Martinez and Del Rey paved the way for future generations of women wrestlers, and were a huge part of the growth of women's wrestling in North America during the past two decades. It all began here, with this match at SHIMMER Volume 1!

This match really got me into woman's wrestling. SDR is a legend and Mercedes is one the best ever.
