Microscopic bits can hitch a ride on your clothes, find their way into your body, and impact your personal health. They’re part of your exposome—and everyone has one.

Read More:

Take a Deep Breath and Say Hi to Your Exposome
“In the past few decades, researchers have opened up the extraordinary world of microbes living on and within the human body, linking their influence to everything from rheumatoid arthritis to healthy brain function. Yet we know comparatively little about the rich broth of microbes and chemicals in the air around us, even though we inhale them with every breath.”

What Makes Rain Smell So Good?
“A mixture of plant oils, bacterial spores and ozone is responsible for the powerful scent of fresh rain.”

Invisible Swarms of Particles Envelop Us All. Come Have a Look
“Prior exposome research has involved placing stationary air monitors in places people frequent, like houses and subway stations and busy intersections. Snyder's gadget inverts the sampling process by making the monitor simultaneously mobile and highly personal.”

If you could, would you ACTUALLY want to know the creepy, crawly bits in your exposome cloud?

I use to live in the DFW area and I would get bronchitis twice a year. Since moving out of the city I haven't gotten sick. It's been years! I fully believe air quality plays a huge part in our health.

I work full time at a thrift store, so I imagine my exposome is quiet large and dynamic? How interesting...

One looks through the ingredients list in your yogurt to find the petrochemical yellow die banned in Europe for causing headaches and possibly seisures, but somehow got past the FDA's filters.

People being sick all the time almost for no reason could be a canary in the coal mine type deal.

This is an amazing project. The data will take decades to fully dissect.

This is why you should avoid faux fur jackets/hats. Tiny brittle (microplastic: nylon, polyester) fibers break off and they can easily be inhaled.

Need to do an experiment like this in South Korea. Might finally prove to the government that they can't blame all the pollution on Chinese sources.
