I like writing it as d = √( (Δx)² + (Δy)² ) to think about the x and y components more abstractly rather than computationally. It asks, “What is the length in x and y?” instead of “What is x₁ x₂ y₁ y₂ and subtract them?” This makes calculations quicker and I guess more intuitive. My friends do it where they were taught that the second point is always (x₂, y₂), but really you could pick either point and just mentally calculate how long it is from the other point. Idk if this makes sense but yea
