This is likely a hint at how in the comics, Sans fights constantly for his own life while knowing that his power is strong enough to power the Core that brings magic to their world. He refuses to give himself up despite it potentially saving everyone, and that's the likely reason for his reaction to Aliza repeating the question. Highly recommend reading through the comics if you haven't yet.
