I am from a small archipelago south east of Asia called the Philippines, a nation that received fleeing Jews from the Nazi persecution of 1934. Just like any well meaning being, I was horrified by the news of the 7 October massacre and I have tuned in to the news daily since day 1. Israel is close to my heart, with all the stories written in the pages of the Good Book. As a child, I lamented over the tragedy at the Munich Olympiad, a news clip we dramatized in school. Learned of great men with strange sounding names: Golda Meir, Moshe Dayan, Menachem Begin, Yitzhak Rabin. Later I heard stories of valor and heroism by a gallant soldier named Yoni Netanyahu. It was if, now that I am old, that the Israel story is coming full circle. i pray from the bottom of my heart that Israel withstands this grievous adversity. I stand by you, Star of David. Shalom!
