Have you tried wrapping your finger tips with those bandages that stick to itself? They wrap broken arms, fingers, everything - and can be cut t o size. That way you save your fingers and maybe the manicure too!! I have done work like this and all types of intricate work all my life, utilizing this type of coverage for this very thing. I hope this helps. There may be a very slight learning curve involved. I would change it out every 2 hrs, on breaks. Good luck!

Sigh I didn't bother to wrap my fingers the other day and the files destroyed my nails with a nice big gouge across one of them too

Maybe try rubber finger protectors from Amazon? They help you grip the piece, and protect your fingers 😊
