This is one of the most haunting songs I've ever heard and to think that he wrote it when he was so young. An old soul, like John Prine, etc.

This is such a beautiful and haunting rendition by Stephen Stills. He has the best version.. No one can do this better.

Stills did it all, Lyrics, Music, Production, and dealing with ' The Suits' (period)

Stills recorded this track in one take, but he later recorded it again because he didn’t like 1:41 where he stammered a bit between singing “I” and “embrace”.
Ultimately, his band mates convinced him to use the first version, as according to Nash, “It was so human, and on such a human song”.

This is a work of deep thinking, and feeling, art.

I think if you just think of some times in one's own life you can relate to the mood of this song it's haunting but beautiful at the same time

I've always loved this song, from the first time I heard it. (I bought the album at the time.) It still stikes me as unique... very moving... perfectly crafted... words & music meaningful & beautiful. A little chef-d'oeuvre, a work of art. Thank you, Stephen Stills. You really were a very gifted songwriter & musician.

Simply amazing. I LOVE their material and grew up with it. Hampton Beach N. H. in the summer of '71...I can smell the aromas of fried dough and incense floating in the ocean breeze every time I listen to this sweet sweet

for those of us who lived in those tumultuous years this song echoed what a lot of boomers were feeling including myself... the melody lyrics and the musicianship to create this poem are sadly lacking in today's pop music...

Back in the days, I continuously played this single track over and over again, just for the melody as I didn't understood English at the time. Loved it then, now even more since I now what it is about.

Wow, that's talent. That time in our country
somehow inspired the musicians to become great.

I’ve just come home from seeing an amazing concert with Graham Nash. He gave a short backstory to the song then sang it solo. Not as good as Stephen Stills here, but still spine chilling. Not bad for an 82yo. He and his band got multiple standing ovations at the end. Believe me, we don’t do that standing ovation thing in Perth, Western Australia all that often!

Stills wrote and recorded it then played it for the others and asked them to sing backup harmony but they refused because they knew it was already perfection.

Someone below posted about a less than stellar performance by Stills at a concert...

I saw CSN&Y in Memphis in 1974...

Two opening acts, Jesse Colin Young (The Youngbloods), The Elvin Bishop Band, and then CSN&Y...

Played an electric set, an acoustic set, and then closed with another electric set...

I think my ticket cost $9.00
