As the latest global climate change summit approaches, China is facing a huge challenge in keeping its pledges to cut carbon emissions, while sustaining its extraordinary rate of economic development.

The country is undergoing a construction boom as it builds modern homes and infrastructure for its vast population. It means China is the world’s leading producer of steel, one of the most polluting industries.

Huw Edwards presents BBC News at Ten reporting by Robin Brant, in the steel-producing city of Wuzhou in southern China.

As long as "Economic Growth" is the most important thing for any government around the world there is no way that Climate Change ( Global Warming) can be stopped!

Dear BBC, could you for once make a piece of news about China that is positive? I lived there for 7 years and just within the last 5 years the environmental sustainability efforts have been remarkable. While in Europe we talk about abandoning straws in China massive efforts are actually been implemented. But does anyone ever talk about them?

It’s really unfair when you judge carbon emission by country and not per capita.

In fact, the production lines of companies in many countries are established in China. People want cheap industrial products and hope that China will stop emitting greenhouse gases. Obviously, this is a contradiction.

Totalitarian regimes seem to go hand in hand with being environmentally destructive, and the PRC is definitely no exception.

If you want to see how china is, is very easy just a click . Way did you record just the garbage on the construction site ? is like someone record london dirties street with homeless graffiti rats and garbage. or the long line of cars to buy the fuel.

Look, China
but here in Canada, we plant less trees in 8 years than China is 1, so like we are all B-S
except for Bhutan, they are doing something right

I know this is a patronising propaganda bit, but it does seem like China has been expending too much industrial energy on over providing basic infrastructure with so many residential buildings and shopping centres standing empty. But they do have a rational economy, so maybe those buildings will fill as they mature into the next phase of their planned development.

I severely beg to differ ‘what we’re doing is no one else’s problem’. Climate change is indiscriminate in its GLOBAL impacts
