Testicular Cancer Awareness Month is observed during the month of April. Dr. Tarun Jindal, Senior Consultant, Uro - Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Narayana Superspeciality Hospital in Howrah give an overview of testicular cancer.

Types of Testicular Cancer:
- Seminoma and non-seminomatous germ cell tumors

Signs and symptoms of Testicular Cancer:
- Asymptomatic swelling in the testis
- Incremental change in the size of the testis

Examinations to be done to determine Testicular Cancer:
- Ultrasonography examination
- Blood tests
- CT scan of the abdomen and chest

Basis the prognosis, it is decided if the entire testis or a part of it needs to be removed.

Treatment modalities for Testicular Cancer:
- Robotic surgery i.e. minimally invasive procedure
- Conventional surgery or retroperitoneal lymph node dissection
- Chemotherapy
- Radiotherapy

Dr. Jindal asks men to not neglect any hump, bump or lump in the testis. Do examine yourself regularly. Testicular cancer can be managed if it is diagnosed and treated well in time.
